What key benefits DOES Bioinfile bring, as a partner in the Activa Startups program?

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (ai)

  • AI-Driven Data Curation: Bioinfile AGGREGATES, RefineS and calibrateS biomedical databases COMBINING ADVANCED AI ALGORITHMS WITH PROFOUND DOMAIN EXPERTISE SUCH AS IN microbiome research. ThIS DATA Is always up-to-date, accurate, and ready for use, significantly reducing the time required for NEW manual curation and increasing data reliability.

  • Enhanced Data Integration: Bioinfile ENABLES COHESIVE AND high-quality databaseS TO BE FURTHER USED DOWNSTREAM THE R&D PROCESSES, INCLUDING E.G. THE TRAINING OF NEW AI MODELS AND ALGORITHMS. This approach improves update speed and supports rapid scientific advances, providing biotech companies with a clear competitive edge in product development.

  • Scientific Quality and Precision: Bioinfile's databases are calibrated to deliver high-resolution results, minimizing the possibility of false positives and negatives in microbiome analyses. This ensures that the products developed by the SME meet the most rigorous scientific standards.

  • Personalized Approach and Scalability: Bioinfile offers customized solutions tailored to the specific needs of each project. From co-creating databases to optimizing bioinformatics workflows, Bioinfile ensures support that is aligned with the scale and goals of the SME.

  • Reduction of R&D Time and Resource Use: Bioinfile’s curated databases enable biotech companies to shorten their R&D cycles, directly leading to lower energy consumption in research activities. The efficiency gained through quick access to high-quality data allows companies to minimize the need for prolonged experimental phases, thereby reducing their overall carbon footprint.

  • Efficient Data Management: The company's approach to managing large datasets through scalable AI solutions prevents redundant efforts in the industry, such as analyzing duplicated data and manual updates. This more efficient data management process results in less energy-intensive operations and supports a transition to a more sustainable biotech sector.

Sustainable Practices

  • Commitment to FAIR and FATE Data Principles: Bioinfile prioritizes the principles of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and FATE (Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Explicability) in its data practices, ensuring that its UNDERLYING datasets can be shared and reused across different research initiatives. This commitment reduces the waste of scientific resources, as data is used more efficiently across multiple projects, maximizing its impact.

  • Gender and Equity Perspective: Bioinfile facilitates innovation in biomedicine through AI-optimized databases that are tailored to a gender perspective. For example, recognizing the uniqueness of the gut microbiota in each individual, the optimized and customized databases ensure that all patients are treated as study subjects under equitable conditions to achieve personalized medicine, regardless of their motor, psychological, intellectual, sensory abilities, or other minority groups. This equal access and consideration eliminate gender barriers, promoting equity and inclusion in genetic research and personalized medicine.

  • Sustainable Innovation and Circular Economy in Biomedicine: Bioinfile contributes to adopting measures aimed at improving sustainability, efficiency, and the circular economy in biomedicine and artificial intelligence. In particular, it promotes the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

FAQS ACTIVA STARTUPS

  • Activa Startups is a grant program promoted by the Fundación EOI and the Ministry of Industry and Tourism of Spain, with the aim of fostering open innovation in SMEs. It focuses on collaboration between SMEs and startups to develop projects that drive digitalization and the adoption of emerging technologies.

More information available at the Official EOI website.

  • The grants are aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have their tax domicile in Spain. The SME must be interested in developing an innovation project in collaboration with a startup that provides technical advice and support.

  • Each SME can receive a grant of up to 9,500 EUR as non-repayable funds. These funds are intended to cover the costs of the innovation project developed in collaboration with a startup.

  • Projects should focus on digital transformation, the adoption of emerging technologies, and the resolution of innovation challenges. This includes the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, big data, blockchain, and more. Additionally, the transition towards a low-carbon economy and the adoption of sustainable practices are highly valued.

  • The application submission period is open from October 1, 2024, and ends on October 31, 2024. It is important for the SME to prepare the necessary documentation and submit its application before the deadline to be considered.

  • The SME must submit the application electronically through the Fundación EOI's online portal. The form is simple and requires information about the SME, a description of the innovation project, and details of the collaboration with the startup. It is an accessible process designed to facilitate SME participation.

  • An innovation challenge is a problem, challenge, or opportunity that an SME faces and seeks to resolve through collaboration with a startup. For example, it could be the implementation of an artificial intelligence solution to optimize production processes or the development of a data analysis tool to improve decision-making.

  • The startup acts as a strategic collaborator, providing advice and technological solutions to the SME to resolve the innovation challenge. Although the application is submitted by the SME, the startup is a key partner in the execution of the project.

  • Collaborating with a startup allows SMEs to access advanced technologies and innovative approaches, accelerating their digital transformation. Additionally, the grant covers the costs of this collaboration, making it easier to adopt new solutions without the need for significant investments.

  • The full text of the call and the regulatory bases are available in the National Subsidies Database, on the Fundación EOI's website (www.eoi.es), and on the Ministry of Industry and Tourism's online portal.
